Questions and discussion points arise in the dialogical process. Some of them are addressed and answered here. Terms such as gender dimensions or the underlying understanding of interdisciplinarity are also clarified. This page will evolve over the course of the project in line with the discussions.

Gender-Bias
What is it?
Bias refers to distortion effects that arise from unconscious or conscious stereotypes and prejudices and influence perceptions, actions and behaviour. Accordingly, gender bias results from gender stereotypes and prejudices. These shape everyday life, communication and decision-making. But also science – and therefore also research – must reflect its conscious and unconscious assumptions (e.g. in an I-methodological approach).
Gender dimensions
What does it mean?
The relevance of gender varies depending on the research context and topic, so that the gender dimensions, i.e. the way in which gender needs to be taken into account, must be determined specifically in each case. Gender is understood as an integral perspective and analytical category in relation to the object of research. Following Londa Schiebinger, a distinction can be made between content-related, structural and cultural dimensions (cf. Paulitz 2012: 166).
Equality – Gender studies
What is the difference?
Equality or equal opportunities is a policy that asks who does research. In contrast to that, gender research is a scientific disciplinary field. It is about the question of what and how research is carried out and what significance gender dimensions have for research. Gender research can provide insights for a successful policy-making that helps to improve equality and makes intersectional approaches for addressing diversity.
Inter- and transdisciplinarity
How does the GeDiMINT project use the terms?
At TU Brauschweig, interdisciplinarity refers to cooperation between two or more disciplines that jointly research a topic or subject. Transdisciplinary research also involves stakeholders and partners from non-university institutions from business, society and politics. The German Science and Humanities Council (Wissenschaftsrat) defines a cooperation in which a common subject area is investigated by a division of labour as multidisciplinary.
