Phases of the cooperation institution

Braunschweig Centre for Gender Studies (since 11/2022)

Shortly before the 20th anniversary, the name of the cooperation institution is again identical to the founding name. In the course of this renaming, the structure was adapted to the requirements.

More about the current structure here.

Braunschweig Network for Gender and Diversity Studies (2020-10/2022)

For almost three years, the cooperation institution was continued under a new name, combined with the permanent employment of a part-time management position. The previously loose network of academics from the three universities will be institutionalised as the Braunschweig Network for Gender and Diversity Studies (NeGeDiS). The Coordination Office for Gender and Diversity Studies (KoGeDiS) replaced the BZG office and continued to provide support, networking and independent activities.

Braunschweiger Centre for Gender Studies (2003-2019)

The Braunschweig Centre for Gender Studies (BZG) was founded in 2003 as a cooperative institution of the three universities. In addition to the Gender Equality Officer Brigitte Doetsch (TU), Professors Bettina Wahrig (TU), Sabine Brombach (Ostfalia) and later Heike Klippel (HBK) were involved from the very beginning. As the TU Braunschweig is the largest of the three universities, the BZG was institutionally linked to the Equal Opportunities Office there.

The foundation was made financially possible by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK) as part of the Maria-Goeppert-Mayer-Programms for International Women’s and Gender Studies. Since 2014, the cooperation institution has been fully funded by the three universities in proportion to its size.

From 2003 to 2007, Stephanie Zuber coordinated the activities of the BZG as an employee. Juliette Wedl took over the position in 2008 and has been the project manager since 2010. In addition, Gisela Stilke was responsible for administrative tasks from 2014-2020, which Meike Beierstedt has since taken over.
The Team has been expanded through Projektakquise since 2009:

  • Teaching Coordination, since 2009: Daniela Döring (2009-2010), Michael Fürst (2011-2012), Katja Barrenscheen (seit 2012), Anja Heine (2014-2015, parentel leave replacement)
  • Project E-Learning in Gender Studies and the follow-up project Digital Teaching Materials in Gender Studies, 10/2013-6/2019: Veronika Mayer (2013-2015), Sandra Winheller (2015-2019)
  • Project Gender Studies learning through play, 3-9/2015: Veronika Mayer
  • Cooperation project Interface, 10/2017-9/2018: Sandra Winheller
  • Cooperation project University teaches diversity!, 10/2017-12/2019: Simon Geuchen (2017), Annika Spahn (2018-2019)
  • Gender Certificate 1.0. project, 10/2020-9/2024: Annette Bartsch (since 2020)

In 2011, the BZG was positively evaluated by the Scientific Commission of Lower Saxony (WKN) as part of a state-wide assessment; more on the WKN evaluation report from 2013 here.
