IH2E: Goals & Background

In the concept development phase, the aim is to identify sustainable structures and instruments for taking the gender dimension into account in STEM research and in interdisciplinary research cooperation for the GiB concept by January 2023. If approved, these are to be implemented in five years with funding from the BMBF.

General goals

  • Establish binding milestones for checking the relevance of the gender dimension in all research phases
  • Motivate and enable researchers to integrate the gender dimension independently
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation between researchers in STEM disciplines and the humanities, cultural studies, social sciences and economics (InnovationHub)
  • Developing unique selling points of TU Braunschweig
  • Making results visible and usable as best practice (transfer to other universities)

Goals of the concept phase

  • Winning over planned or existing research associations, working groups and interested researchers for dialogue exchange
  • Involve stakeholders and institutions relevant to research in the development of the concept
  • Identify needs and ideas for support structures in the dialogue process
  • Define and discuss ideas for the structure of the relevance check and the InnovationHub (formats and content)
  • Develop GiB concept by January 2023 in exchange with researchers at TU Braunschweig

Background

The systematic consideration of the gender dimension in STEM research is increasingly necessary and required in order to remain competitive and internationally compatible—especially in joint projects.

  • With its excellent research, TU Braunschweig is enormously competitive
  • International standards and requirements for joint projects have changed: Research based in the STEM disciplines must also take the gender dimension into account and address issues related to the humanities and social sciences
  • Quality and excellence criteria of national and international third-party funding institutions include the integration of multiple perspectives to solve global challenges (e.g. DFG, EU Horizon 2020, Excellence Initiative)

IH2E is a project of the TU Braunschweig. It was raised in cooperation with the Braunschweiger Zentrum für Gender Studies.
